 Words of Wisdom

"A small body of determined spirits, fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history".

Mahatma Gandhi

The Right To Information Act 2005
(Central Act)

It is for responsible citizens to ensure transparency in governance with judicious application of the law on the right to know. The law must be used by the genuine people for the right cause. The greater the number of such genuine activists, higher will be the degree of transparency and lesser the corruption . These web pages seek to arm civic and social activists with the basic information they need to have, to start harnessing and leveraging the power of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

The founder and chief coordinator of MAHADHIKAR Shri Kewal Semlani, passed away in July 2008. His spirit and passion for furthering the cause of RTI continues to motivate all those who he came in contact with. The activities of MAHADHIKAR, although limited by the absence of Shri Semlani as the driving force, are being continued by a few of his close associates and family members.

MAHADHIKAR's founder, late Mr. Kewal Semlani, strongly believed that every citizen should be educated on using the Right to Information Act and he had conducted numerous workshops to achieve this objective. MAHADHIKAR continues to be committed to spreading the awareness of RTI amongst all sections of society. MAHADHIKAR through its association with Tarun Mitra Mandal(TMM) and Satark Nagarik Sanghatan (SNS) will conduct workshops on RTI for urban and rural citizens in English and Gujarati.

MAHADHIKAR's website will continue to provide on-line help and guidance on RTI.

MAHADHIKAR is committed in its endeavor to spread the use and effectiveness of Right to Information in the everyday life of citizens.
